Sentosa Kidz Flea @ Qifa Primary School

“I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can't change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.”
- Charles de Lint

Sentosa Kidz Flea provides pupils with an opportunity to learn about recycling and giving to the less fortunate in their community.

Items needed are storybooks, toys, game sets, board games, dolls, stuffed toys that are in good condition.

Pupils can bring these items for donation to school.

The next and final collection is on 13/2/15 (Friday).

When we do good deeds, we feel good and others too. - Ms Chan

P1 Exemplary Library Period - National Library Bookblast @ Qifa Primary School

"Kids can change the world. All they need is a little inspiration."
- inspire my kids.com

At Qifa Primary School, reading is strongly endorsed and encouraged as it is one of the most important stepping stones towards enhancing learning in children.

Hence, to cultivate a love for reading, pupils are to bring a storybook everyday to school to read during morning assembly.

P1 Exemplary has a reading corner at the back of the classroom whereby pupils can pick up books to read when they have finished their classwork though they cannot bring the books home.

However, pupils are still to bring their own books as an inculcation of reading as a positive and life-long habit.

Pupils have a choice of a wide array of books.

Books provided are based on the reading profile survey.

Pupils share their choice of storybooks.

Pupils are engrossed in their reading.

Shared moment of reading insights.

Silent reading and enjoyment.

Pupils poring over their books and looking at each other's choices.

Final selection of books to borrow for those with NLB membership.

Exchanging books for reading.

Happy reader! :)

 Insights from "inspire my kids.com"

Reading is one of the most important ingredients to becoming all that you can be.

Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and helps you do better in all school subjects.

Most importantly, reading can not only help you become a better student, but a better person.  You can learn from the brightest people whenever and wherever you choose.

As important as reading is that:
  • 800 million people around the world cannot read or write
  • Many families (and some schools) have no books for children to read
If you are already a strong reader, helping others to read is an amazing gift that you can give.

Here are some inspiring quotations that bring to life the power of reading and how it can make you a better person:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”

“I find television very educating.  Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.” – Groucho Marx

“There are many little ways to enlarge your world.  Love of books is the best of all.” - Jacqueline Kennedy

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” – Richard Steele

Love life, love reading, love books and have a restful weekend. - Ms Chan
